Some forethought in organising an office Christmas party

At long last, the time has come for year-end office parties – the time for breaking the ice, barriers, resentment, rivalry and all other negative forces that are sometimes rampant and almost always inevitable in an office atmosphere.

Surely that’s enough reason to give some forethought and consideration before you organise the most eagerly awaited event of the year! Let’s look into some pre-requisites while organising an office party, or any party for that matter, that we have to be mindful of.

The age groups of the guests is an important factor to be considered before organising every aspect of the party, be it fun and games, music and dance, food and beverage menu or the dress code. There should be something that caters to or appeals to every age group.

Whether the catering should be buffet style or whether silver service should be provided depend greatly on the age groups of the guests. It would be ideal to have both styles of service to ensure that all are comfortable.

Where would you have the party – a place that is trendy and happening or one that is serene and tranquil? Is the place easily accessible and is there parking facility that is convenient for all prospective guests? Besides the location, the time and date of the party should also be generally convenient.

Choosing a colour for dress code would make it flexible enough so that the guests can wear clothes that they feel comfortable in and choose clothes that they would love to wear, for, part of the fun unarguably lies in dressing up for the party! A flexible theme code would equally suit the purpose.

Last but never the least, give most, if not each, of your staff members some significant role in the party to make them feel they belong.

And as a closing note, if you have to put all of this together properly and in time, you had better plan well ahead!
